20 Weeks- Half Baked

We made it!! We're officially half way through the pregnancy! My little tadpole has grown from a fetus into a baby, that's growing larger and stronger everyday. Our love is growing as we have sat in anticipation over these last few months watching my belly expand. Our minds are being blown with wonder over how our lives have already changed and what's to come in the next 4 months. This experience is absolutely amazing!

Tomorrow we have our second ultrasound, where they'll check every little inch of the baby's body. I wanted to find out what exactly they do during this appointment, as some of my pregnant pals have told me that this is a very long ultrasound. So this is what I found online that the sonographer will check during the appointment.
  • The shape and structure of your baby's head. At this stage severe brain problems, which happen very rarely, are visible.
  • Your baby's face to check for a cleft lip. Cleft palates inside a baby's mouth are hard to see and are not often picked up.
  • Your baby's spine, both along its length and in cross section, to make sure that all the bones align and that the skin covers the spine at the back.
  • Your baby's abdominal wall, to make sure it covers all the internal organs at the front.
  • Your baby's heart. The top two chambers (atria) and the bottom two chambers (ventricles) should be equal in size. The valves should open and close with each heartbeat.
  • Your baby's stomach. Your baby swallows some of the amniotic fluid that he lies in, which is seen in his stomach as a black bubble.
  • Your baby's kidneys. The sonographer will check that your baby has two kidneys, and that urine flows freely into his bladder. If your baby's bladder is empty, it should fill up during the ultrasound and be easy to see. Your baby has been peeing every half an hour or so for some months now!
  • Your baby's arms, legs, hands and feet. The sonographer will look at your baby's fingers and toes, but not count them.
  • As well as this detailed look at how your baby is growing, the sonographer will check the placenta, the umbilical cord and the amniotic fluid.
Wowzers! No wonder it's a lengthy appointment. As long as everything goes well, we'll be happy campers. I'm just focusing on not peeing on the ultrasound table! Hahahaha! Hey, that litre of water that I'll have to drink before the appointment, has to come out eventutally!

One other thing they will be able to look for, is the sex of the baby! Oh sweet baby Koz! I wonder what you'll be? Whatever you are in there, we'll have to wait one more week to find out. Sunday March 30th is our reveal party with our family and friends. We're so stoked to have everyone together to find out. 7 more days!! ahhhhhhhhh

Here are my stats for the week....

How far along are you: 20 WEEKS!!! We're 1/2 way there!
Total weight gain/loss: I'd like to take a wild guess and say I'm 15 pounds heavier than when I first got pregnant. I'll find out the real total on Thursday at my doctor's appointment. Dun dun dun!
Maternity clothes: I lucked out once again and scored 2 wicked pairs of maternity jeggings that I'm absolutely in love with! Not only do I love them, but I bought one and got the other for free. Yup, that's 2 for $40. Woooo! I needed a dress for this past weekend and I wasn't sure what kind of dress I was looking for. Looking at maternity dresses, is a bit depressing because they are so awful looking on a human body. I decided that instead of paying for a maternity dress that I may only wear once (or twice) during this pregnancy, that I might as well start really looking into a dress that I can wear when I'm back to being one person again. With the tunic style dresses that have recently become popular again, I decided to take another look at how I would look in them with a belly. And you know what?! Not too bad! So fellow preggers, I highly recommend trying on a tunic dress for any event you may have coming up. See my progress photo for what I mean.
Sleep: let me put it to you this way. Either I'm waking up to go to the bathroom every 2-4 hours, or I'm dreaming about some really wacky things. On a good note, I dreamt I had a glass of wine! Only to be turned down when I asked for a second helping. After all, they told me one is enough since I'm pregnant. hahahaha
Best moments of the week: This sweet little babe, has been moving alot and giving me such a fabulous feeling all throughout my days. It may be a coincidence, but it moves A LOT at the sound of me talking about cake, or actually eating cake. I'm going to say it's taking after it's mumma on this one and will be a lifetime cake lover :)
Food Cravings: Ahhhhh this one is so hard to say. I still haven't had one of those moments where I'd step on Paul's face to get to a certain food. (yet) But I have had situations where I've come across a certain food, for example we'll say that food was a pineapple upside down cake or a white birthday cake (thank you Karen and Cathie for bringing cake to work) I can't necessarily work, or talk, or breathe or sit still without thinking about inhaling a piece of the cake that I spotted on the counter at work. So it's safe to say that once I see a type of food in my visual periphery that is to my liking, I will take the time to have a taste. (or 2, or 3 or all of it) Word to the wise my friends; Don't put your cake in my way. You might not get it back. Oh and I also ate a whole bag of microwave popped popcorn to myself one night that may have taken me 15 minutes to polish off. Good grief.
Wedding rings on/off: Still on. Thank you cold weather for keeping my fingers skinny. (and cold)
Symptoms: Back pains. Oh boy..... I didn't see this one coming. I've read about it and continued to exercise and strengthen my back and core to ensure that the weight that I'm gaining in the front of me will be supported by my strong core. Well that all hard work went out the window when I found myself sitting in uncomfortable chairs for an hour or more a day without getting up to walk around and stretch every hour on the hour. I wish I could work in a lazy boy.... or from my bed. One or the other. I'm not that picky:)
Moods: Happy or annoyed. Today I was both. At least I'm not emotional and crying..... yet?

19 Weeks!

Happy St Patricks Day!! Usually this weekend consists of me being decked out in St Patrick's day attire and drinking green beer (don't forget eating pub fare as well) with my friends. This year I'm off of work for the "holiday" however it's going to be fairly different. And by different, that means not getting merry off green beer. So what's a pregnant girl to do? Get a Shamrock Shake from McDonalds of course! I haven't had one of those shakes in years. Drinking it definitely made me feel nostalgic, but I was feeling like a little piggy and bought a medium. It's McDonald's so any size is pretty big, so needless to say that I had got milkshake drunk. Hahaha!

This week Paul and I also got to book our babymoon trip. We've been discussing going on a trip before the baby arrives ever since we found out that we were expecting. We both agreed that we wanted a luxury trip full of sun, food, sand, ocean, pools, and RELAXATION. Nothing but laying around and enjoying each other's company while we still can do it :) Paul found this highly rated resort in the Mayan Rivera in Mexico where we couldn't be more excited to spend a week in! Ahhhhhh few more weeks!

Speaking of a few more weeks..... our gender reveal will be in less than 2 weeks! We're so stoked!

Without further adieu, here are my stats for the week!!

How far along are you: 19 weeks. Almost half way there!
Total weight gain/loss: I got the confidence to stand on my home scale this week. I'm not sure if it's EXACTLY reading correct, but it did read that I am 13 pounds more. So I guess it might be. Eeeeee
Maternity clothes: I got the rest of my Motherhood Maternity order this week. Some of the stuff I ordered is awesome. a couple of the sweaters i got just look like extra large sizes. I think that I'll be returning those because nothing about them says maternity except the stupid tags.
Sleep: I may have jinxed myself from last week because there's been a few times this week where I've had a hard time falling asleep. Once I do get to sleep and I turn in my sleep, I've been waking up on my back. Once I do wake up on my back, all I feel is pressure on my bladder and I "gotta go". Thanks baby....
Best moments of the week: having our babymoon trip booked! Can't wait to spend quality time with my hubby because we haven't had hardly any time together these past few weeks.
Food Cravings: I always joke around at work about ice cream sandwiches. I think that ice cream will be a part of my life for the next few months. But it's official, if it's going to be an ice cream sandwich it HAS to be the President's Choice Decadent Cookies Ice Cream sandwich. All others are bogus.
My brother had me and my sisters over at his house earlier this week. He made this wicked 3 cheese dip with naan bread. Rob if you're reading this, I'd like some more of that dip please.
Wedding rings on/off: on!
Symptoms: I've been feeling this intense pain in my abdomen from my uterus stretching. Go figure that I had those feelings all while at work. I trooped through them, but I would much have rather been at home laying down. Frig, those pains had me thinking that I'm growing a giant in there! (Please don't be a baby giant)
Moods: Meh. Those pains I told you about made me, not too happy and I was grumpy about having to work through them. I'm on days off right now and feel awesome (go figure) so I'm great now!

18 Weeks!!

I just came back from the sweetest baby shower in honour of my good friend Tarah and her baby to be! It was held by her friend Laura, who was the ultimate baby shower host! Laure had sent out these cute little invites that I received a month ago, which little did I know, would outline the sweetest baby shower! We drank out of glass baby bottles with the tops removed with paper straws, adorable brownies shaped as baby building blocks for dessert, pictures of Tarah and her husband's face for the guests to "create" what they think the baby could look like using the features in the photos, sugar cookies in the shapes of baby onesies where we could decorate them with icing, advice Mad Libs for the parents to be (my favourite as I did this for my bridal shower!) and a game to guess the size of Tarah's baby bump. (Ya, I won that one!) Here's some photos of the lovely afternoon....

This week I got my creative edge flowing. I took an intro sewing class to learn the basics of how to thread a sewing machine and how to cut out a pattern and sew a pillow. Don't laugh but I had no idea how to do it! Now I feel a little better knowing how to use a sewing machine, so I'll be looking forward to making stuff for my bebe and HALLOWEEN COSTUMES!!! hahaha just over 7 months until Halloween. Just saying :).

My handmade pillow!

I also completed a baby blanket for my gal pal Tarah's wee one with a matching bunny hat to wear when it's finally here, since it'll be born before Easter. After seeing the finished project, I felt a need to keep making more. I'm trying a new chevron pattern that I've just learned. Fingers crossed that it works out. I've had to take out a few hours of work that I've done already because of my indecisiveness on the colour pattern. But I can't wait to see how this one turns out!

Here's my bump photo bombing my last crochet creation!

We also bought our baby's crib this week. Paul had sent me photos on my phone of the crib that he liked. I was just melting from the idea of him looking at baby cribs and picking them out on his own. Ahhhh so sweet :) We agreed on the same one and decided to go ahead and get it! It's paid for, ordered and will be coming in 8-9 weeks. We've been slowly starting to clear out the spare room from my wedding stuff/ Halloween costumes to turn the room into a nursery.  Only 3 more weeks until we find out which gender baby Koz will be so we can start decorating!

Here's the bed our little love will lay their head.

And here are my stats for the week!

How far along are you: 18 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: I'd like to say I'm still 12 pounds up. I haven't weighed myself this week. LOL I'm scared of that scale nowadays.
Maternity clothes: I got one of the shirts from my Motherhood Maternity order in the mail this week. I'm actually wearing it in my 18 week photo. Nothing glamourous but I really like the gathered sides on these maternity shirts because they look better than just buying bigger clothes. The rest of my order should be here soon!
Sleep: I really don't want to jinx myself, but again sleep has been awesome for me. (ya, I get up to use the bathroom awesome but that's nothing new) Every time it's time to sleep it takes me between 10-15 minutes to get off to dream land. I'm still dreaming up a storm. I dreamt that I was in Vegas with my Nana in a souvenir shop looking at dancing toys. Some of these dreams are so stupid! Hahaha
Best moments of the week: feeling my little darling move around doing summersaults and kicking.in the womb. Greatest feelings!
Food Cravings: Paul and I went to the movies yesterday. Once it was decided that we were going to go, I had my sights set on movie theatre popcorn with butter. I must have mentioned it 10 times before we got to the theatres and then sat and ate most the bag we tried to share while watching the movie. It was glorious.
Wedding ring on/off: on!
Symptoms: I had a headache last week for no reason, and lovely bloating during some of the evenings. But so far 2nd trimester has been great to me.
Moods: pretty content this week. I enjoy my days off with my husband and seeing my friends... I just hope I get more of those great days with them next week!

17 Weeks!!

There's nothing like being in love. It's even more amazing when you see the person you love, do something that makes you love them more.

As Paul and I were headed out to look at baby furniture (for the first time!) we left at 4pm and encountered the typical rush hour traffic. Instead of taking the highway and battling the regular commuters, we decided to take the service road to the furniture store. As we approached an intersection a couple blocks away from our destination, we noticed it was backed up and moving slower than usual. As we got to the intersection, we noticed that there was a van in the turning lane that was stopped and a little car beside it. As we started moving beside these vehicles, the driver to of the car was at the drivers side van door.

Paul pulled over and parked our car up on the sidewalk, walking over to the van because it looked like they needed help. During this time the light turned green, cars started to drive past and I couldn't see what was happening. When there was a clearance, I couldn't see Paul or the driver from the van any longer, I could only see that person from the car was still on the phone with 9-1-1.

A short minute later the ambulance pulled up. As I tried to watch what was happening, I see the ambulance crew put the driver from the van up onto their stretcher and I see Paul doing chest compressions on the van driver. Oh! So that was what he was doing when he was out of site! He hopped in the ambulance and kept doing them until the ambulance crew could take over before they left the scene.

During this time police and fire started pulling up to the intersection. After Paul spoke with the officers who arrived on scene, he got back into our car. He told me that when he went over to the driver in the van the driver was slumped over, turning purple and not breathing. He said he pulled the driver out of the drivers seat and onto the ground to start doing the chest compressions as help was on the way. Needless to say I was so proud of him! It didn't take him long to see that these people needed help and he jumped to assist.
(Side note: we were updated later on that the man was in the hospital in stable condition)

Have you ever seen your partner do something that made you so proud? I'd love to hear some!

Now onto my stats for the week....

How far along are you: 17 weeks and into my 5th month!
Total weight gain/loss: 12 pounds
Maternity clothes: thrifty me went venturing out to value village the other day and scored myself some maternity work pants for $7.99. They were originally from Thyme Maternity and fit me when I tried them on. Done deal! I'm sick of wearing tights to work all the time! The next day Motherhood maternity had buy one get one free online. So I bought some key pieces from there too. Figured I might as well, seeing that I'm going to be pregnant more than once in this life! LOL
Sleep: I'm still sleeping like a champ. I hope this keeps up until the very end. Here's hoping!
Best moments of the week: putting in my papers at work to officially book my maternity leave!
Good cravings: apparently it's been of a Mexican authenticity lately. Fajitas, tacos.... Gimme gimme!
Wedding rings on/off: they're on!
Symptoms: I've had some cramping in my uterus. I know it's just making some room for the babe!
Moods: happy!
